Hurricane Electric Offers Services in Washington DC Area
Fremont, California - August 9, 2002 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service Provider, announced today that they will now offer direct connections and colocation in the Washington DC area.

Hurricane Electric expanded their network to the Washington DC area last week by adding an Internet exchange point to their growing cross country network by partnering with Equinix Inc., a leading provider of core Internet exchange services.

"We are expanding our network everyday," said Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. "Washington DC is the next logical major metropolitan area for our network."

"Our current customers have expressed a lot of interest in our services and bandwidth in the Washington DC area," Leber added. "We wanted to make them happy, so we found a way to do it."

Hurricane Electric is offering a T3 (45 Mbps) out of Ashburn, VA, located in the Washington DC area, for $4,500 a month with no setup fees as part of their "Welcome to our Capitol" special. Hurricane Electric is also offering an OC12 for $15,000 a month with no setup fees as part of the special also. Fractional T1's and T3's, T1's, OC3's, OC12's and IP over metropolitan Ethernet providers are also available. A T1 (1.544 Mbps) from Hurricane Electric in Ashburn will run $650 a month.

Hurricane Electric's Ashburn facility is located at Equinix Inc., a leading provider of core Internet exchange services. Customers that colocate their equipment at Hurricane Electric's Washington DC area facility will enjoy every amenity they could ask for, including a 24/7 knowledgeable staff, high tech security, HVAC environmental systems, digital surveillance, and conditioned uninterruptible power.

At the facility, Equinix provides an Ethernet switch fabric, where Hurricane Electric can connect to 60 other carriers located at the exchange point such as Sprint, UUNET, AT&T, and Level(3). An Ethernet switch fabric is a space where major providers connect to each other.

Established in 1994, Hurricane Electric expanded their network and their facilities in the last two years by opening a new colocation facility in Fremont, CA and acquiring Lightning Internet Services in New York in January, 2002. Hurricane Electric now offers services in the New York, Chicago and Washington DC areas along with the Silicon Valley.
