Using yeast genetics to crack gene regulation of the AIDS virus

Listed above is my project description - I think it's a really cool way to approach figuring out how the AIDS virus works so we can tackle it effectively. Besides it's based on the fact that whether we're humans or bakers yeast we have alot in common in terms of the mechanisms of gene expression, and I bet it'll work!

Few links on this page are active at the moment, as the University has banned graduate student Web pages. I am in the process of trying to move everything. I plan to re-open the chat site as soon as I can, although it will only be able to be accessed around 3000 times a day, as anything more than that would cost me lots of money.

Some notes on Scrapie (aka Mad Cow Disease) (a description in plain English)

Mad Cow Disease (formally known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy) is a disorder among cows that is related to many human neurological disorders. It appears to be caused by the misfolding of a normal cellular protein.

Who am I? Who I am.

I am an upright terrestrial primate. I spend a significant amount of time foraging through wafers of compressed cellulose covered with artificially applied characters forged from molten hydrocarbons. I also spend lots of time following large populations of biologically relevant super-structures composed of ordered hierarchies of atomic particles.

Platform Independence is a state of Mind - Mac, PC, UNIX; Who Cares? The most useful computer is the one you know how to do things with. And if you can use one, you most certainly have the skills to learn, cope with, and/or utilize the benefits that each has to offer.

When I get some free moments I plan to describe more about yeast genetics and AIDS. Also I plan to construct a few interactive/formdriven science things that illustrate things like enzyme kinetics, etc. I highly recommend the attributes and benefits to be gained from living in a communal house. More on this later when circumstances permit. Here is an example of a group house that Louis Hom lived in on the East Coast. Although living alone has many advantages as well, people will typically spend by default most of their lives living alone, with their families, or with a partner. There are times in the interim when living with a group of people can offer many good experiences and valuable lessons for how to get along with each other and benefit from the presence of other people.
