How to establish a non-profit
If you are going to do it yourself the Nolo Press Book How to Incorporate your non-profit is a good resource. It has
all the forms you will need on a disk. The aprox. cost is $150.
The lead time is aprox. 30 days and cost $30.
If you would like people to be able to write off the contributions to your non-profit you will need to become a
501C-3. For non-profits that receive donations of less than $10,000 a year the yearly cost to continue them is
$150. If you are receiving donations of over $10,000 a year you will have a yearly cost of $450.
You will need to apply for the non-profit status and any donations that you receive will be retroactive to the date
of filing once you recieve your approval. For example if it takes 8 months to receive the approval you will be
retroactive to the filing date.
