This tutorial will demonstrate how to upload files to your account on our server using Fetch for Mac OS X. If you don't have Fetch for Mac OS X, you can download one using the link below:
Install Fetch following the instructions that came with the program. When you order an account from Hurricane Electric you are sent an account confirmation email. The beginning of it should look something like this: Date: Mon, 1 May 2000 14:31:28 -0700 From: Customer Support <support@he.net> To: bobbyw@he.net Subject: Your New Account "rflyer" on Server "he.net" Thank you for your order! Here is your account: Account: rflyer Password: xk23fj4 Machine: he.net We will be using the above account information for our example. Launch Fetch. You'll be shown a dialog where you'll enter your account information. Using the example account information above you would enter the information this way: ![]() When entering your password it will show dots in place of the letters you type. Now you're ready to connect. Click on OK. At this point your curser will turn into a cool animated dog.
You'll see a window that looks something like this: ![]() Double click on where it says public_html and the window will change to look something like this: ![]() The box on the left shows what's in your account's public_html directory on our server. There will be a directory (folder) named .status (where your account's status reports are kept) and a temporary index.html. In this example we will be uploading a new index.html which will automatically replace the temporary index.html. To upload your file click on Put Files.... A box will come up that looks something like this: ![]() Locate the folder you web document is in on your Macintosh. In this example it's index.html file. Double click on index.html. The next box to show up should look like this: ![]() Leave where it says Format on Automatic. Then click on OK. Our animated dog returns.
When your file is done uploading, the window should look something like this: ![]() Which in this example because we're uploading an index.html to replace an index.html will look exactly as it did before we uploaded the file. Congratulations! You've just uploaded your first file. You can disconnect from the server by closing the window. |
