Automated Secondary DNS Service

Our automated secondary DNS service will fetch your secondary file from a specified location daily using anonymous FTP. Once this is setup, you can keep adding to your secondary file and know that it will get updated in a timely manner.

Without an automated system you end up depending on the secondary name server's adminstrator to find time to add in your new domain names. Incorrect secondaries can lead to delays in registration and outright refusal of applications by some national NICs.

This service is provided as is without warranty. This service may be interrupted for maintenance or for other reasons. This service is not included with any of our standard services. Hurricane Electric reserves the right to stop performing this service without prior notice. Hurricane Electric evaluates requests on a case by case basis. Only requests from customers or network peers are considered.

Secondary File Format

The format we require your secondary file to be in is below. We need the zone filenames to be the domain name with "tables/" in front of it. Like so:

secondary  somedomain.com            A.B.C.D  tables/somedomain.com
secondary  anotherdomain.com         A.B.C.D  tables/anotherdomain.com
secondary  gooddomain.net            A.B.C.D  tables/gooddomain.net
etc.

A.B.C.D is the IP address of your primary domain name server. Comments lines (lines starting with a semicolon) are allowed. Your spacing may vary and can be tabs or spaces.

FTP Path

This is where we should get your secondary file from via FTP. This would be something like someisp.net:/pub/someacct/secondaries Where someacct is the account name where the file "secondaries" is stored and someisp.net is the machine to get it from.
